New Bursary Opportunity: Supporting Future DSW Professionals 

Community Living Essex County’s Inspiring Possibilities DSW Bursary

Purpose:
To financially support and encourage high school students passionate about pursuing a career in Developmental Services who are enrolled in the Developmental Services Worker (DSW) program at any accredited college. 

Bursary Amount: one $1,500 bursary to be awarded to one student from one of the following Essex County schools: Belle River District High School, St. Anne Catholic High School, Essex District High School, Erie Migration District School – Secondary, Leamington District Secondary School, Cardinal Carter Secondary School, North Star High School, Sandwich Secondary School, St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Secondary School, Tecumseh Vista Academy and L’Essor (Conseil scolaire catholique Providence-French Catholic). 

Eligibility Criteria: 

Applicant Status: Open to area high school students planning to enroll in the DSW program at any accredited college. 

Community Involvement: Demonstrated involvement in community service or extracurricular activities, particularly those related to social services or support for children, youth, or adults with developmental disabilities. 

Personal Statement: Submission of a 500-word essay describing the applicant’s interest in the DSW field and how the bursary will aid in their educational journey. 

Application Process: 

  • Complete the application form available online HERE.
  • Complete a personal 500 word essay.
  • Provide proof of acceptance or application to the DSW program at an accredited college. 

Application Deadline: Monday, April 28th, 2025  

Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by a panel consisting of a representative from Community Living Essex County, a representative from bursary sponsor and a retired high school representative.  The recipient will be selected based on community involvement, and personal aspirations in the DSW field,  

Award Distribution: The bursary will be awarded as a one-time payment of $1,500 to be used towards tuition, books, or other educational expenses. The recipient will be notified by May 9th 2025, and the award will be presented by a representative of the Bursary sponsor and Community Living Essex County at the CLEC Annual Members Meeting in June 2025.
