New Bursary Opportunity – Supporting Future Developmental Service Worker (DSW) Professionals
Purpose: To financially support and encourage high school students passionate about pursuing a career in Developmental Services who are enrolled in the Developmental Services Worker (DSW) program at any accredited college.
Bursary Amount: $350 per student, per school.
(11 participating high schools) including: Belle River District High School, St. Anne Catholic High School, Essex District High School, Kingsville District High School, Leamington District Secondary School, Cardinal Carter Catholic Secondary School, North Star High School, Sandwich Secondary School, St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic High School, Tecumseh Vista Academy Secondary School, and L’Essor Catholic Secondary School.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicant Status: Open to area high school students planning to enroll in the DSW program at any accredited college.
Community Involvement: Demonstrated involvement in community service or extracurricular activities, particularly those related to social services or support for children, youth, or adults with developmental disabilities.
Personal Statement: Submission of a 500-word essay describing the applicant’s interest in the DSW field and how the bursary will aid in their educational journey.

Application Deadline: April 30, 2024
Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by a panel consisting of representatives of Community Living Essex County. The recipient will be selected based on academic merit, community involvement, personal aspirations in the DSW field, and financial need.
Award Distribution: The bursary will be awarded as a one-time payment of $350 to be used towards tuition, books, or other educational expenses. The recipient will be notified by May 15, 2024, and the award will be presented at each school’s graduation ceremony by a representative of Community Living Essex County.
