Movie Night in the Park presented by Community Living Windsor

Enjoy a FREE screening of Disney’s Moana outdoors in historic Willistead Park! Bring your own blanket or lawn chair and Community Living Windsor will bring the refreshments & popcorn! This event is open to everyone!  There are paved pathways throughout the park and accessible parking is available.

Optional donation: one canned good for the Downtown Mission.

Get BATTY at Point Pelee National Park on Saturday, September 8! The park is staying open late to give visitors a chance to see the bats that call Point Pelee home.  Meet at the Visitor Centre at 7:30 for a presentation and a guided night hike!

Registration is open for the Rose City Riot Para-Sports Club Wheelchair Basketball!
Cost is $250 for the season.  No experience necessary.

Open Streets Windsor

Open Streets is a program where city streets are opened to people and closed to cars. The streets become “paved parks” where visitors of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds come together to enjoy healthy and fun physical and recreational outdoor activities!

Labour Day Weekend in Essex County

Harrow Fair

Celebrate the 164th Harrow Fair! Enjoy farm equipment displays, local fruits & vegetables, farm animals, live musical performances and a midway with carnival games and rides! The annual parade takes place on Saturday morning at 11:30am.

Grab a lawn chair and watch classic cars go by! The Ouellette Car Cruise kicks off its parade of classic and vintage vehicles at 6:00 pm in the heart of downtown Windsor. The route runs south from Ouellette Avenue to Tecumseh Road East, east to Pillette Road and west on Riverside Drive to Ouellette Avenue.

LaSalle Hangout for Youth

LaSalle Hangout for Youth

1400 Front Rd., Unit B in LaSalle

The LaSalle Hangout is a youth drop-in centre that is inclusive and open to ALL youth ages 11-18 (support workers of all ages are welcome to attend if needed). Youth do not need to live in LaSalle to attend, however transportation is not provided.

  • Summer hours are 9:30am-8:30pm Monday-Thursday, 9:30am-5:30pm on Friday and 12pm-3:30pm on Saturday
  • Open 4pm-7pm during the school year
  • Building is accessible and washrooms are partially accessible
  • All activities at the LaSalle hangout are FREE. Many different activities take place throughout the week, and include swimming at the LaSalle pool, yoga at BeachWalk Family Fitness, movie nights & more!
  • There are games, craft supplies, computers and video games available for use everyday
  • LaSalle Hangout often hosts guest speakers

This event features a wide range of activities for all ages, including Beebo the Clown, superheroes and princesses from Enchanted Adventure Parties, and birds of prey from Kingsport Environmental.  Live music starts at 4:45pm and will continue until the fireworks begin at dusk. Volunteer Opportunities – The Uncommon Festival Amherstburg

Amherstburg

The House of Shalom is looking for volunteers to help oversee road barricades in Amherstburg for the upcoming Uncommon Festival, August 3-5.  Please share with anyone you think may be interested!

    • The shifts are 4-5 hours in length and require volunteers to man the road barricades to ensure vehicles are not driving down roads closed for the festival.  Each barricade requires 1-2 people per shift.
    • Volunteers must be 14 & older.
    • Student volunteers will receive volunteer hours.
    • There is some volunteer paperwork that needs to be completed as requested by the Town of Amherstburg.
    • Water will be provided for volunteers during their shift.
    • Volunteers will also be provided with an apron to wear as part of the theme of the festival.

Group Hug Apparel, in partnership with the Essex County Heroes, is offering FREE Aqua Fit Classes for youth and adults with an intellectual disability. Have fun while getting some exercise!

Classes will take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm for 45 minutes.

Volunteer Opportunities at Upcoming Hospice Events

Fireworks

The 60th Annual Ford Fireworks takes place on June 25, 2018.  Many roads surrounding downtown Windsor are closed on fireworks night, so plan parking/transportation accordingly.  Transit Windsor buses are free on fireworks night, from 6pm-12:45am and there is a park-and-ride shuttle from Devonshire Mall.

Automotive Flea Market and Festival of Cars Show

Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village – 6155 Arner Townline, Essex

It’s time for the annual Spring Automotive Flea Market and Festival of Cars Show! Refreshments are available for purchase in the Boarding House 8 am-1 pm, and Breakfast and Lunch is available in the 50’s Diner 8 am-2 pm.

Admission is $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 and under.  The CTMHV has generously waived the entrance fee for support staff who are attending with people receiving supports.

Artistic Journaling

The Gibson Gallery, 140 Richmond St., Amherstburg

Journaling is a powerful tool to help relax the mind, practice mindfulness and be in the present moment. It can also be a great and gentle way to process deep down feelings and give fresh space for peace to enter your soul. Join us with your favorite journal to learn how to tap into this relaxing and rejuvenating practice.

$25 per person, journals available for $10 if you forget your own or need one.

Artistic Journaling is facilitated by Lindsey Ecker. Lindsey is a certified Mindfulness Teacher and Mental Health Advocate. She is also an Advanced PSYCH-K facilitator and an Access Bars Practitioner. She has done extensive journaling and artistic journaling to support her own emotional well-being as well as helping young and old alike tap into creativity for healing.
