Essex County Heroes Athletic Club

Providing Recreational Opportunities Since 2004

About the Essex County Heroes Athletic Club

The Essex County Hero’s Athletic Club, formerly known for the past decade as the Amherstburg Heroes Athletic Club, will continue to hold its Wednesday night basketball sessions at General Amherst High School in Amherstburg. Basketball nights are also held at Essex High School every Tuesday.

The Heroes is a joint partnership with Community Living Essex County and the local police. The club, established in 2004, provides opportunities to those with an intellectual disability to participate in exercise, sportsmanship and recreational opportunities.

As a non-competitive basketball program for people with an intellectual disability it has expanded to include playing baseball at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg during the summer months and taking athletes to local hockey games, bowling and other community events. This valuable program provides people an opportunity to exercise, learn new skills and socialize.
